December 2021 update on Burydene Playing Fields

Over the past few months, the Playing Fields Association have been working on plans for new children’s play equipment to be installed at the Burydene. They are now looking to finalise plans and raise funds - the majority of which will come from local community grants, in addition to funds from the Parish Council and Playing Fields Ass.

The proposal includes installation of:

  • A 20m zipwire
  • A basket swing
  • A climbing unit with 2 slides, firemans pole and climbing wall
  • A climbing frame circuit, with scramble nets and balance ropes
  • A caterpillar swing
  • A shark springer
    • All timber framed
    • Surfacing will be a combination of grasslock matting, mulch and wetpour (rubber-type)

The new equipment will be sited alongside the drainage mound, running the length of the car park. The current skate ramp will need to be removed – to create space, but primarily due to failing recent safety checks.

The swings and square climbing frame will remain unchanged, however the ‘crazy daisy spring’ will be replaced by a ‘shark springer’ – a like-for-like replacement due to the age and condition of the current spring.

The team are gathering feedback on the proposal and would love to hear your thoughts. Please send any comments or questions to Angela and/or John at angelalpryce@gmail.com and johnhalelho@btinternet.com

Full details can be viewed in the attached VDPFA Proposed play equipment.pdf file.

Playing Fields Association

The Vernham Dean Playing Fields Association has two functions to perform, firstly to maintain the current facilities and secondly to raise funds so that the facilities can be improved upon for all to enjoy. The committee work hard to ensure the village deliver some fabulous community events including hosting the annual Test Valley Tour cycle event, the village fete and the bonfire night.

The Multi Use Games Area is well-used, especially in the summer months. Our pavilion can be hired for events such as birthday parties, dinner parties and much more. Please contact Amanda Taylor on 01264 737640 for details.

We are always looking for people to help in a number of capacities. We welcome new committee members to help with the planning of events and upkeep of the facilities and we also require help in the lead up to and during events, be it flipping a burger, collating the village calendar, painting benches or designing the next Fete poster… there will be something you can help us with. If this is something you would like to get involved in then please contact John Hale on 07967 564491 or email johnhalelho@btinternet.com
